On several occasions, when a section of the battery has been shelled, he at once proceeded to the position in order to encourage the detachments by his presence and example.’ James Hunt was a native of Higher Broughton, Manchester. He served during the Great War with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the French theatre of war from 22 September 1914.
