Douglas John Montriou Campion was born on 14 December 1883, and educated at Bedford School and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He served with the Royal Artillery in the Tochi Valley, November 1914 to March 1915; Mesopotamia, September 1916 to September 1917; France and Belgium, January to November 1918; North Russia 1919-20; Waziristan 1921-24; North West Frontier 1930-31; Colonel 1932; appointed to command 52 (Lowland) Division R.A. in 1936; Temporary Brigadier 1937; retired 1939. Appointed Commander Home Guard, Eastern Command from 26 June 1940 and was granted Honorary rank of Brigadier upon his retirement, 2 December 1942. He was a member of the Hampshire T.A. and A.F. Association from 1948. Brigadier Campion died on 22 June 1963. His elder brother was Sir Gilbert Francis Montriou Campion, G.C.B., Baron Campion, of Bowes, Co. Surrey, cr. 1950.
