Butler, Royal Army Service Corps, twice Mentioned in Despatches during both World Wars The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type, silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1919; 1914 Star, with clasp (2.Lieut: H. B. B. Butler. A.S.C.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. Oak Leaves (Major H. B. B. Butler.); 1939-45 Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, M.I.D. Oak Leaf, mounted for wear, light contact marks overall, generally very fine (7) £240-£280 Footnote O.B.E. London Gazette 1 January 1919. Henry Basil Bacon Butler was born in September 1892, and commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Army Service Corps, in July 1913. He served during the Great War with the Corps in the French theatre of war from 17 August 1914 (M.I.D. London Gazette 17 February 1915 and 29 May 1917). Butler remained a soldier between the wars, and advanced to Lieutenant-Colonel in August 1939 (M.I.D. London Gazette 26 July 1940 and 20 December 1940). He retired Honorary Brigadier in March 1947.
