A Great War ‘Mine Clearance’ O.B.E. group of four awarded to Commander R. C. Clavell, Royal Navy The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 1st type breast badge, silver-gilt, hallmarks for London 1919; 1914-15 Star (Lieut., R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut., R.N.) some contact marks, very fine (4) £300-360 Footnote O.B.E. (Military Division) London Gazette 17 October 1919. ‘For valuable service in the Mine Clearance Force’. Richard Charles Clavell appointed Midshipman on H.M.S. Agamemnon, 15 January 1902. Promoted to Sub-Lieutenant on H.M.S. St. George, February 1912 and Lieutenant on H.M.S. Kennet in April 1913. Lieutenant Clavell was awarded the O.B.E. in 1919 for service with the Mine Clearance Force. Promoted to Lieutenant-Commander in April 1922 on H.M.A.S. Melbourne. Seconded to the R.A.F. in July 1929. With the Royal Navy Educational Service in 1934. Retired at his own request with the rank of Commander, 19 February 1935. With some copied research.
