A Group of Four Illustrations of Nitya Devis The present group of illustrations feature Nitya Devis, a group comprising fifteen Tantric Goddesses who represent the lunar cylcle of the moon. Each Goddess has her own group of energies or Shaktis which help the practitioner combat and dispel various negative forces and afflictions. The complete circle of the Nityas, corresponding to the full lunar cycle, is also known as Kalachakra or the Wheel of Time. Pictured above is Bherunda Devi identifiable by her golden skin. Also included in the group are are Kameshwari, bearing a bow and arrow; Mahavajreshwari, who carries an elephant goad; and the Goddess Tripura, who is at the epicenter of this tantric cycle, clad in white and bearing rosary, manuscript and lotus in her hands. Opaque watercolor heightened with gold on paper image 9 3/8 by 7 1/16 in. (23.7 by 18 cm.) and slightly smaller folio 11 1/2 by 9 1/8 in.
