A GROUP OF NORTH-WEST PERSIAN BRONZE AND IRON SWORDS LATE 2ND/EARLY 1ST MILLENNIUM B.C. Including a bronze and iron sword, the bronze hilt with 'cotton-reel' pommel, the rectangular guard, cylindrical grip and the stem between the two discs decorated with incised linear decoration, iron blade, 32¼ in. (82 cm.) long; a bronze sword with flared 'ear' pommel and square-sectioned grip, the open pommel with ridged back, the long blade with mid-rib and horned guard, 26¾ in. (68 cm.) long; a bronze short sword with splayed pommel and ribbed hilt flanged to take wooden inlay (traces preserved), the triangular blade with flattened mid-rib and rectangular guard, 17 in. (43.1 cm.) long; another similar with open crescentic pommel, the ribbed cylindrical grip with square recess in base for inlay, 18 in. (45.8 cm.) long; and two iron swords, each with blade at right angles to the ribbed hilt, remains of recumbent lions on the guard, the disc-shaped pommel ornamented with worn twin double-head protomes, a lion and bearded male head, 17½ in. (44.5 cm.) long max. (9)
