A group of three scrimshaw teeth depicting images from the American Civil War** Anonymous (American, early 20th century) The first tooth depicts an image of the "Stone Fleet" and is inscribed "Bound For Chraleston/The Stone Fleet" and lists some of the ships including: bark Garland , ship Rebecca Simms , ship South America , revenue cutter Varina among others. On the other side is a rendering of Lady Liberty and is inscribed "Whalers sunk for the Union". The second tooth depicts an image of Abraham Lincoln with the inscription "E. Pluribus Unum" at the bottom, and on the opposing side is a depiction of the battle between the U.S.S. Monitor and the C.S.S. Merrimac and engraved with "The Merrimac And The Monitor Exchange Fire". The third tooth illustrates the the action between the ships Sassacus and the Albemarle on May 5, 1864, and on the other side is an engraving of a Union Navy gun crew with the caption "In Union is Strength". 6 in. (15.2 cm.) and smaller. (3)
