A HIRATA SCHOOL IRON TSUBA AND TWENTY-THREE TSUBA edo period (17th-19th century) An iron futa mokko-gata tsuba inlaid in cloisonn enamels, gilt and silver with flowerheads and paulownia, partly worked in low relief with chrysanthemums, the center of both ends pierced, 2.5/8in. (6.7cm.); an oval shakudo-nanako tsuba with shakudo and gilt decoration of plum blossoms, 2in. (7cm.); a rounded-square copper ishime-ji tsuba inlaid with a gilt flower and shakudo leaves, 3in. (7.6cm.); an oval iron Bushu tsuba pierced with a whip and a saddle, signed Bushu ju Masakata , 2.5/8in. (6.7cm.); a thick circular iron tsuba inlaid with an Omori style peony, 2in. (7cm.); an iron tsuba of indented cross shape decorated with a mokume pattern within a rim of spider webs, 3in. (8.4cm.); a rounded-square iron tsuba pierced with beams, Suruga school, 2in. (7cm.); a circular iron late Kamakura-style tsuba designed with flowers, 3in. (9cm.); a circular iron tsuba pierced with chrysanthemums, 3in.
