A Japanese cinnabar lacquer four-case inro 19th Century carved in high relief with two immortals standing amongst pine trees and rockwork, the reverse with three more seated figures reading books and scrolls in a similar landscape, on geometric grounds, the interior in nashiji, with attached ojimi bead, the netsuke of quatrefoil shape in two sections decorated with figures in garden scenes -- 35/8in. (9.2cm.) high; and a wood three-case inro, the sides carved with two confronting dragons either side of scrolling foliage, on a star-pattern reserve, the interior cases in gilt, with attached ojimi bead, the netsuke in the form of a drum decorated with a dragon amongst cloud scrolls between studs -- 37/8in.
