A Japanese ivory okimono of a monkey trainer, Meiji (1868-1912) carved as a trainer offering an apple to the stretched out hands of a monkey sitting on his left shoulder and supported by a bundle on the man's back, the monkey wearing a waist coat and cap and tied to a rope held by the man's left hand, the trainer wearing loose robes tied at the waist with a belt supporting a pouch and case, incised signature -- 6 9/16in. (16.6cm.) high.
