A large Chinese blue and white ewer and cover, late Qing dynasty (1644-1911) of tapering lobed melon shape with a curving spout emerging from the jaws of a dragon, with a short neck surmounted by a circular cover with a twisted leafy branch finial, with a rectangular overhandle in the form of confronting dragon heads flanking a pearl, painted with two five-clawed dragons pursuing the flaming pearl amidst fire and cloud scrolls above foaming waves, the neck with a key-fret border, the cover with fire and cloud scrolls, underglaze blue six character Wanli mark -- 14 1/8in. (35.8cm.) high.
