A LARGE GERMAN COW-HORN POWDER-FLASK of natural horn engraved with a rococo coat-of-arms against a hunting trophy, brass nozzle with sprung brass tap, and brass suspension loops, the base encircled by a brass band and with domed cow-horn cover (split) held by a staghorn screw, mid-18th Century; another German cow-horn powder-flask with flattened body carved at the top with a stylised monster's head, finely engraved on one side with three stags in a landscape, each sharing the same head, and on the other with two oval cartouches, one engraved with an elephant and the inscription 'La piéte purifiée plaît à Dieu.', and on the other with an eagle and 'A la guerre et à la Paix.', and with wooden stopper incorporating a pricker (suspension rings later, base split), late 17th Century; and another, with cut-down cow-horn body engraved on the front with foliage, a fleur-de-lys and the date, all within a border of ropework, and later wooden mounts and suspension rings, dated 1606 24¾in., 10in. and 9in.
