A large Scottish military officer's dirk, 19th century. The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders Regiment, 79th Battalion dirk is ornately decorated with gilt cast metal locket and chape mounts molded in relief with acorns, oak leaves, thistles and bluebells. The dirk's pommel, campaign knife and fork terminals are inset with faceted Cairnegorm (citrine) stones with each ebonised baluster grip set with brass studs. The main blade sheathed within the black leather scabbard is forged with a faceted edge and finely engraved to both sides with elaborate decoration and includes the list of battle honours together with the maker's mark of Meyer & Mortimer of Edinburgh, Scotland. 20.4 in (51.8 cm) length.
