A LOUIS PHILIPPE ORMOLU QUARTER-STRIKING ASTRONOMICAL MANTEL REGULATOR WITH COUP PERDU ESCAPEMENT, FULL CALENDAR AND MOONPHASE PAUL GARNIER, HORLOGER DU ROI, PARIS, NO. 1797. DATED 1844 CASE: substantial, with foliate cast mouldings, bevelled glasses, volutes to the angles, detachable top, front and rear bezels DIAL: white enamel seconds ring signed 'PAUL-GARNIER H.GER DU ROI', its reverse with enamellist's signature 'Droz fils 1843', counterpoised blued steel seconds hand, eccentric white enamel hour and minute ring, pierced ormolu hands, centred by a star-spangled blue enamel disc revolving to show phase of moon, a central white enamel disc giving age of moon via gilt pointer, recessed centre with coup perdu escapement and apertures for day of week, date and month shown on revolving enamel drums, winding squares concealed to sides of dial and hand-set below MOVEMENT: large twin barrels (mainspring signed 'Burel'), quarter snail and two bells to back plate, this dated and signed '1844/PAUL GARNIER/HORLOGER DU ROI', front plate numbered '1797', spring-suspended Mahler-type gridiron pendulum with fine adjustment to crutchpiece, swinging within beat scale, also applied with a stone-set royal crown to the bob; winding and setting keys 19 1/8 in. (49 cm.); 15¼ in. (39 cm.) wide; 10 in. (25.5 cm.) deep
