A Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Vernis Martin Commode 19th century having a serpentine front breche d'alep marble top on a case of bombe outline enclosing two drawers painted to show roses and figures among clouds with putti bearing garlands, raised on splayed legs ending in sabots. Height 36 1/2 x width 55 x depth 22 inches. Estimate $ 3,000-5,000 Marble top with light scratches, edge chips and a repaired break down its middle. Sides of case with age cracks and scuffs/scratches with lost lacquer and exposed gesso. Front of case also with age cracks and scuffs exposing some areas of gesso. One leg with a large crack running through it but apparently not affecting the stability of the commode. Mounts with dirty, uneven, darkened patina in some areas. All mounts appear present. Drawers open easily. Attractive condition overall. Additional photos available upon request.
