A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL PLAQUE BY GEORGES-ANTOINE CROZE (FL. 1777-1790), MARKED, PARIS, 1783/84, WITH THE SECOND CHARGE AND DISCHARGE MARKS OF HENRY CLAVEL 1782-89, STAMPED WITH INVENTORY NO. 628 oval box, the cover, sides and base enamelled in translucent blue and scattered with gold paillon stars and pellets on a wavy engine-turned ground, within opaque white enamel band and gold ropework rims, the cover centred with an enamel plaque depicting the stern of the St. George ship flying the white ensign, a cannon, the flags of France, Spain and the Netherlands lying on the ground, the motto 'SOLI DEO GLORIA' inscribed below, the interior cover engraved with the crest and monogram of Captain John Hatley, R.N. and the motto 'DAT PUGNA CORONAM' 2 3/8 in. (60 mm.) wide
