A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED BURR-ELM SECRETAIRE A ABATTANT CIRCA 1785-1795, ALMOST CERTAINLY SUPPLIED BY DOMINIQUE DAGUERRE THE CARCASE STAMPED BY JEAN-FRANCOIS LELEU BUT ATTRIBUTED TO ADAM WEISWEILER The associated rectangular white-marble top with leaf-cast border above a panelled frieze mounted with scrolling foliage and griffins and fitted with a drawer, above a hinged fall-front with a circular Sèvres plaque painted with a ribbon-tied spray of flower in turquoise oeil de perdrix border and flanked by spiral-turned baluster columns, opening to reveal a leather-lined writing-surface, four cedar-lined bois citronnier drawers, three pigeon-holes and an open shelf, above a spring-operated drawer centred by a rectangular plaque with putti symbolizing astronomy, on faceted tapering legs joined by an interlaced stretcher with mille-raies edge and terminating in turned tapering feet, stamped 'J.F. Leleu', marked in ink 'R. 152', also with possibly spurious stamp 'A Weisweiler', with French and Company number 53819-X, inscribed in pencil 'no.1' and '2', the plaque slightly concave and unexamined to the reverse but apparently original 30¼ in. (128 cm.) high; 28 in. (71 cm.) wide; 13¾ in. (35 cm.) deep
