A LOUIS XVI SILVER-GILT SOUP TUREEN, COVER AND STAND PARIS, 1787, THE STAND 1789, MAKER'S MARK OF PIERRE-FRANCOIS GOGUELYE Of oval form, raised on four acanthus scroll feet, the body repousse and chased with flutes below an elaborate band of acanthus scrolls and flowerheads on a matted ground enclosing, on each side, a mask, chased above with an oval and reed matted band and with applied laurel rim, with sweeping acanthus scroll side handles, the high domed cover chased with similar acanthus scroll and flowerhead decoration enclosing, on each side, a foliate scroll and rocaille cartouche engraved with German Princely armorials, surmounted by a pomegranate finial, with modern liner, the oval stand with similar laurel rim enclosing, at each end, acanthus scroll and rocaille decoration and, on each side, and acanthus scroll and rocaille cartouche engraved with the same armorials, with rocaille, foliate swags, trelliswork and masks overlapping the fluted band below, marked under base, on cover, liner and under base of stand; the body with the charge and the cover with the charge and discharge of Henri Clavel, the stand with the charge and discharge of Jean-Francois Kalandrin, the reverse of stand also struck with Paris marks for 1809-1818, maker's mark rubbed on stand--length of stand 18in.
