A matched pair of Regency mahogany bedside cupboards, circa 1820, attributed to Gillows, each 79cm high, 40.5cm wide, 35cm deep Provenance: Private Collection, London. Purchased from William Bedford (Antiques) Plc. A virtually identical matched pair were sold Bonhams, Fine English Furniture, Bond Street, London, 9th November 2014, lot 113 (£13, 750) . Another similar matched pair at the same venue, 4th June 2014, lot 120 (£9000). Condition Report: Both with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use. Some old splits and chips. One door with an old lateral split across it. The same door with old repaired splits adjacent to the upper hinge. One of the turned handles is mahogany the other is rosewood. They also vary in size slightly from one another. Of cleaned/polished appearance. Both with four drilled holes to the undersides. One cabinet with three of these holes plugged. Some slight variations between elements of the two cabinets, including the turning of the legs, supporting blocks to the undersides, and the fluting of the gallery.
