A Medieval silver navette-shaped pendant seal incorporating a Roman carnelian intaglio, the surrounding legend reads AVE MARIA GRACIA PLENA. The carnelian depicts two animals, one horned, and measures 11.56 x 10.10mm. Possibly two cattle beneath a tree, expressive of the fecundity of the countryside, a common theme especially in the Augustine period, late in the 1st century B.C. and early decades of 1st century A.D. The silver mount with vertical pendant loop to the reverse. 2.8cm maximum height. With various correspondence involving the British Museum and the Wiltshire Heritage Museum.
