A Meissen (K.P.M.) chinoiserie silver-gilt mounted teapot and cover 1723, blue crossed swords below K.P.M. mark, gilder's 51. to both pieces Of baluster form, the curved spout with male-mask terminal and hinged mount, the loop handle with incised foliage terminals and both with indianische Blumen , painted by P.E. Schindler with Orientals, one side with a sage and his companion smoking long pipes and taking tea before a low table, a boiling kettle behind them, the other side with an Oriental seated playing a mandolin, a kneeling attendant holding a scroll, on terraces with flowering shrubs and birds and insects in flight above, within shaped oval gilt line cartouches with Böttger -lustre panels and gilt and iron-red scrolls, flanked by insects in flight, the shoulder with a band of interlocking gilt scrollwork and flowerheads, the domed cover with indianische Blumen and a bird and insects in flight about a pointed knop finial 5½ in. (14 cm.) high
