A MEISSEN KPM CHINOISERIE TEAPOT AND COVER CIRCA 1725-28, BLUE K.P.M. CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S 38. MARKS TO BOTH Of squat bombé form, each side painted by C.F. Herold with Orientals at various pursuits on terraces with flowering shrubs, trees and fences, one scene with figures seated about a table, the other with figures by a child on horseback, within shaped gilt cartouches with Böttger -lustre strapwork and panels edged with puce and red scrolls, with insects in flight about the handle and spout, the indianische Blumen above the spout enriched in gilding, below a gilt band rim at the flared neck, the octagonal section spout terminating in a gilt beast's head, the triple scroll handle edged with gilt and iron-red lines, the domed cover with a knop finial above Orientals on a continuous terrace within a double concentric iron-red border and gilt band rim (very slight wear to gilding, teapot with minute chip to beast's beak, minute chipping to footrim and small chip to side of footrim probably dating from time of manufacture, small area of wear to gilt border, cover with minor slight chipping to interior of flange) 4 5/8 in. (11.7 cm.) high
