A MEISSEN (KPM) CHINOISERIE TEAPOT AND COVER CIRCA 1723, TEAPOT WITH BLUE KPM AND CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S 32. TO BOTH Of squat baluster form, painted by J.G. Höroldt with Oriental harbour scenes, one side with Orientals on the shore tending a cow beside a fire before junks, a pagoda on an island and a distant town, the other with a delegation of figures on a shore, a silhouetted barge in the foreground, before distant islands and junks, within quatrefoil gilt and Böttger -lustre panel cartouches edged with pale-brown and red scrolls, the bird's head spout and scroll-moulded handle flanked by indianische Blumen and insects, below a Gitterwerk border, the domed cover with a continuous shipping scene with islands, a barrel and a chest, within a gilt band rim (scratch to gilt rim, slight flake to enamel below barge, repaired chip to finial) 4½ in. (11.5 cm.) wide
