A Meissen tankard, circa 1725, with German silver-gilt mounts, Johann Erhard Heuglin II, Augsburg, circa 1721-25 painted in the manner of Johann Gregorius Höroldt with a large chinoiserie scene of scholars and their assistants, within a frame filled with Böttger lustre picked out in gilding, embellished with iron-red scrollwork, flanked on either side with a branch of indianische Blumen, the handle also painted with a small branch, with a gilded band at the rims and a gilded scroll band at the top rim, the mount with chased régence ornament on matting interrupted by medallions, reserving a central quatrefoil cartouche of a figure representing Africa seated on a lion, with a thumb piece terminating in two lion heads, 14.2cm., 5 5/8 in. high
