A MEISSEN TWO-HANDLED SMALL ECUELLE, COVER AND STAND CIRCA 1725-28, BLUE ENAMEL CROSSED SWORDS MARKS AND GILDER'S 4. MARKS The écuelle with gilt-edged pierced ear-shaped handles, each side painted in the Höroldt workshop with Orientals on terraces within gilt quatrefoil cartouches with Böttger -lustre panels and edged with iron-red and purple scrolls, on a waisted foot with gilt bands, the domed cover with a gilt ball finial flanked by two similar scenes within a band of gilt Laub-und-Bandelwerk enclosed by double iron-red lines and gilt band rim, the stand with indianische Blumen within a similar gilt border, the centre with a raised rim enclosing a vignette of a bird in flight above a cat on a stylised fence, the underside with three iron-red sprays of indianische Blumen (areas of minute wear, écuelle with minute chipping to rims, cover with small minor chip to flange on interior) The stand 5½ in. (14.1 cm.) diam.
