A Miniature Dieppe Model of a Gaff Rigged Cutter Anonymous; late 19th century This is a very fine small scale model of a cutter. The hull of the model is carved and shaped from a single piece of ivory. The stem and keel are inlaid as separate pieces. The cove stripe of the model is incised just below the topsides. The deck of the model is also scored to represent planking, and the deck of the model is fitted with some details which include anchors, deck hatches, long boat, tiller and companionway. The model is fitted with a single gaff rigged mast, cross spars, gaff, boom, bowsprit, etc. The model is rigged with standing and running rigging including: ratlines, topping lift, forestay, backstays, bracing lines, etc. The model is mounted on a pair of cradles which are affixed to a marquetry base. The model is displayed in a glass and mahogany display case. 9¼ x 5¼ x 7¾ in. (23.5 x 13.3 x 19.7 cm.) cased dimensions.
