Beschreibung:

A miniature Napoleonic Prisoner of War model of a 110 gun Ship of the Line** Anonymous (French, early 19th century) A very fine, miniature model of a ship of the line modeled in ivory. The hull of the model is built up from a wooden plug and the ivory shell making up the model is laid over the plug. The ivory pieces are held in place with brass pins. Along the topsides of the model are double bands which are carved in relief between the gun ports. At the bow of the model is a carved figure head and carved and pierced head rails. The quarter galleries are also carved and pierced with red backing and gold filigree for the window frames. The transom is the same as the quarter galleries with a double balcony, and either and ancanthus or swag motif carved along the top. There are remnants of green polychrome across the top. The model has a number of details which include: anchors, pin and fife rails, windlass, ladders, ship boats swung outboard from the rigging, cannons, and other details. The model is rigged with three masts and a bow sprit, standing and running rigging, including ratlines, bound masts, cross spars, tops and trees, stays, bracing lines, etc. The model is displayed on a pair of ivory pedestals in a mahogany framed glass case with an inlaid base and frame. 10¼ x 4 x 8¼ in. (26 x 10.2 x 21 cm.) cased dimensions. ca. 1800
