Beschreibung:

A moonstone, diamond, opal doublet and baroque pearl brooch, the central oval opal doublet millegrain collet set between a pair of scrolled motifs of cabochon moonstones and rose-cut diamonds, beneath a flowerhead cluster of cabochon moonstones, with three baroque cultured pearl drops below, adapted, length 7.5cm. £500-700 Condition Report The piece is made up from four disparate elements: the moonstone cluster, the opal doublet, the moonstone and diamond scrolls and the pearl drops. The opal has a blue body colour with good play of green; there are a few small scratches and some evidence of slight crazing within the opal. There is a small chip to the edge, mostly hidden by mount; the closed back mount shows some wear, the doublet measures 22mm x 10mm. The moonstone and diamond motifs are a pair; the diamonds are all present and are fairly lively, the moonstones are bright but with some surface wear. One is indistinctly signed ‘Mappin’ to the reverse, the other is indistinctly signed; the mounts appear to be white gold, but remain unmarked and untested. One moonstone in the cluster has a couple of scratches to the surface, the rest show minimal wear. The mount is of cruder construction than other elements. The three drops each comprise a pair of baroque cultured pearls of silvery grey tone, with some surface imperfections.
