Title: A New General Atlas of the World, compiled and constructed with the greatest care... Author: Teesdale, Henry Place: London Publisher: Henry Teesdale Date: 1843 Description: With 45 copper-engraved maps (including the double-sheet map of India, which counts as two in the numbering) and a comparative view of the Mountains, all hand-colored in outline, most engraved by J. Dower (Folio) 38.5x25 cm. (15¼x10"), period blind-stamped full morocco with gilt tooling, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Clean series of maps, including world and hemisphere maps, and those of Australia, the Pacific Ocean, the United States, Mexico, etc. On the map of Mexico & Guatimala is the engraved notation, "The Province of Texas acknowledged an Independent State by Grt. Britain Nov. 7, 1840." Phillips Atlases 796 (1848 issue). Ink presentation inscription on front flyleaf dated 1847. Lot Amendments Condition: Some extremity wear to binding, front joint cracked, repair to hinge; else very good, contents clean and fine or nearly so. Item number: 243241
