Carefully Compiled from the best Authorities Extant by David H. Burr Author: Burr, David H. Place: New York Publisher: S. D. Stone Date: [1835] Description: Complete, with 63 hand-colored copper-engraved maps, plus insets, with tissue-guards; engraved title and contents leaves. 15x12½, disbound (sheets bound together, but without boards). Excellent and finely detailed maps of the world with superb and bright hand-coloring throughout, including 35 maps of the Americas, 24 of which pertain to the United States. Map 57 titled �The United States of Mexico� dated February 16, 1832 showing the entire Southwest including California and Texas as part of Mexico, and with a large inset map �Guatemala or the United Provinces of Central America.� Map of North America, dated 1834, also shows California, the Southwest and Texas as part of Mexico. Also with a circular �Map of the Country Twenty Five Miles Round the City of New-York.� Michigan map with Upper Portion named �Michillimacinac County and Wisconsin is still part of the �Huron Territory.� Plus other maps, mostly west of the Mississippi, historically showing the ever-changing early evolutionary stages before the United States became what it is known as today. Hand-written plate numbers on the top right corner count plate 22 twice, therefore ending with 62 plates (but all 63 are present). Phillips Atlases 771 & 1379a. Lot Amendments Condition: Title page and blank preliminary leaf separated, mild toning and faint foxing, occasional marginal stains, a few tears to first and last leaves, previous owner's signature dated 1847; most maps near fine.
