A painting from the Ramayana and another from the Gita Govinda India, Mewar, circa 1720 The first with Rama and Laxman seated at lower left receiving teachings, the same teacher shown at lower right in conversation with a king, another group of students with a prince at upper right and Indra with an attendant at upper left, all against a green grass and with an inscription in a yellow band at top; the second with Krishna and a female attendant standing before a female ascetic seated under a leafy arch, two similar empty platforms at either side, with a brook in the front bordered by flowering shrubbery, also with an inscription in a yellow band at top, and a second inscription on verso Opaque pigments and gold on wasli 9¾ x 16 7/8 in. (24.7 x 42.7 cm.), first folio 9 5/8 x 15 3/8 in. (24.4 x 38.9 cm.), second folio (2)
