A PAIR OF 16-BORE BOHEMIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS CARLSBAD, EARLY 18TH CENTURY With blued sighted barrels decorated with punched and engraved silvered and gilt foliage at the breech, along the sighting flat, and at the muzzle, the decoration on the breech involving an elaborate silvered and gilt trophy of arms above a captive Turk and surmounted by a victorious Austrian, the decoration at the muzzle involving two birds, the flat of the muzzles with punched and gilt flowerheads, tangs incorporating a back-sight and decorated with foliage en suite, flat bevelled locks each decorated with a gilt trophy of arms and foliage within gold lines, and inscribed 'A. Carlsbad.' in gold on the top edge of each tail, rootwood full stocks (minor cracks and repairs), iron mounts decorated en suite with the barrels and comprising pierced serpentine side-plates, shaped escutcheons, spurred pommels each with separate pommel-cap decorated with a gilt figure of Fortune, trigger-guards with pierced finial, turned baluster ramrod-pipes, original ramrods with iron-capped rootwood tips decorated with punched silvered and gilt foliage, and retaining some of their original finish throughout (cocks replaced) 21¼in. (53.9cm.) (2)
