A PAIR OF 18-INCH LIBRARY GLOBES J. & W. CARY, C.1816 The terrestrial cartouche: CARY'S NEW TERRESTRIAL GLOBE EXHIBITING The Tracks and Discoveries made by CAPTAIN COOK; also those of CAPTAIN VANCOUVER on the NORTH WEST COAST OF AMERICA... LONDON: Made & Sold by J. & W. Cary, Strand March 1st 1816 ; the celestial cartouche: CARY'S NEW CELESTIAL GLOBE, on which are laid down THE WHOLE of the STARS NEBULAE . [with applied retailer's imprint:] Made by J. & W. Cary, & Sold by A. & J.M. Duncan, Glasgow, 1817. Each comprised of two sets of 18 hand-coloured engraved half-gores, supported in graduated brass meridian rings with brass hour rings to both poles, sitting in original Cary horizon rings that fit into the contemporary grained-beech library stands. 40 ½ x 25 x 25 in. (103 x 63.5 x 63.5 cm.) Provenance Previous ownership labels of 'J.H. Land' applied underneath both horizon rings.
