A pair of carved giltwood bergeres Print Late 19th / early 20th century, each with a flat square back crested by a bowknot and flowers over a female mask within a medallion, joined to a trapezoidal seat by downcurved closed arms headed by floral garlands and terminating in foliate scrolls, raised on acanthus-capped spirally incised tapering circular legs, covered in scenic tapestry upholstery, 2 pcs, each 42.5'' H x 28.5'' W x 25'' D, est: $1000/1500 *Price Realized: $1,140.00 Condition: General marks, scratches, nicks, shrinkage cracks and wear. Joints slightly loose. Upholstery with general dust accumulation and fading. One chair with a wide crack to one arm support extending downwards through end of seat rail to leg, with a corresponding loss and repaired break to leg with glue residue visible; a sheet of plywood nailed to underside of seat; a small area of separation between upholstery and frame on seat, a stain to seat, and a small area of looseness to passementerie trim on back of seat. The other chair with a loss and repaired break to one front leg with glue residue visible; and with stains to back of chair.
