A PAIR OF ELABORATE GILT-METAL CHAMPLEVE-ENAMELLED ALTAR ORNAMENTS LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY Each raised on a waisted, rectangular galleried stand, one enclosing a caparisoned elephant carrying a vase on its back, the other with a large conch shell borne on a bed of waves, both auspicious symbols supporting elaborate tiers of vaporous clouds issuing upwards in triangular formation, each stream of vapor ornately crested with a double-lotus base mounted with various Buddhist symbols and devotional figures, including the Wheel, the Umbrella, the Canopy, the Lotus, the Vase, the Paired Fish and the Endless Knot, each ornament entirely inlaid in turquoise, dark blue, green, yellow and white enamels within finely chased gilt mounts, the figures decorated in gilding, damages and restoration - both approx. 25 1/2 in.
