A PAIR OF FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS, ALMOST CERTAINLY DUTCH, IN THE UTRECHT FASHION
CIRCA 1710-15
A PAIR OF FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS, ALMOST CERTAINLY DUTCH, IN THE UTRECHT FASHION circa 1710-15 Each with brass sighted barrel swamped at the muzzle, narrow sighting rib involving a small mask suspended within a leafwork rib cast in low relief, and raised moulded breech struck with the barrelmaker's mark LC together with three lion marks (Neue Støckel 3739 and 5533), brass lock with strongly bevelled edges and stepped tail (one cock associated), moulded figured walnut half-stocks (shortened, almost certainly within the pistols' working lives, each with cracks and small repairs), full brass mounts cast in relief, comprising large spurred pommel decorated with concentric plain gadrooned mouldings enclosing a rectangular moulding, side-plate cast with a pierced design of scrollwork involving monsters and a demon mask, trigger-guard with leaf finial, a pair of faceted baluster ramrod-pipes, pierced escutcheon matching the side-plate, and each with brass-capped wooden ramrod. 20½ i n (52cm) (2)
