A pair of George II soup-tureens, covers and ladles Maker's mark of Paul de Lamerie London, 1743 Each shaped bombe oval with shell and gadrooned borders, on four lion's paw-and-ball feet with lion's mask terminals, the lion's tails wrapped around the feet, the foliate scroll handles issuing from lion's mask terminals with protruding tongues amid strapwork, foliage, scrolls and scalework, the bodies engraved twice with a coat-of-arms, the rising domed covers each with foliate and gadrooned borders, cast foliate and shell handle, and foliate and shell band on a scalework and brickwork field, each engraved twice with a crest, marked on bases and covers, the covers additionally marked with scratchweights 127=9 and 126=4 , and a pair of soup ladles, each with deep fig-shaped bowl and tubular handle terminating in an eagle's head, the reverse of bowls engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on reverse of bowls the tureens 16in. (40.5cm.) long, the ladles 13½in. (34.5cm.) long 266ozs. (8,295gr.) (4)
