A PAIR OF HUANGHUALI 'SOUTHERN OFFICIAL'S HAT' ARMCHAIRS, NANGUANMAOYI 17TH-18TH CENTURY Each has a straight top rail of round section continuing to straight corner posts and extending to the back legs below the rectangular frame with a mat seat. The elegantly curved back splat is carved with a ruyi -form medallion enclosing a chilong . The curved arms continue to the front corner posts and are supported on slim, tapering stiles above a shaped, beaded apron carved with floral scroll. The legs are joined by stepped stretchers and the foot rest, above plain aprons on the front and sides. 39 in. (99.1 cm.) high, 23 5/8 in. (60 cm.) wide, 17 5/8 in. (44.8 cm.) deep
