A pair of Italian Venetian bronze torchères after a design by Giuseppe Michieli, each with a pricket candle top, above a graduated stem decorated with cherubs, chimerae and moors, the triform base with chained slaves and hippocampi, above a frieze of scrolling foliage and satyr masks, on paw feet, late 19th century, 111.6cm high, 46.5cm wide, 40cm deep. (2) A very similar candelabrum was exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle and the design was reproduced in the Art Journal catalogue of the exhibition, p.263.
