A pair of Japanese kinji ground vases decorated in gold and slightly coloured hiramakie, takamakie and scattered kirigane, with shaped panels of figures and attendants before pavilions and walled buildings, the reverses with further panels of thatched buildings in mountainous river landscapes, on grounds of irises and foot-bridges between bands of kiku heads and alternating panels of wave, cell and T-pattern, the rims with hirame flakes (each vase with chipping to rims, slight cracking to bodies and minor rubbing) -- 13in.high.
