CIRCA 1725, DREHER 'S .. TO FOOTRIMS OF BEAKERS AND TO FOOTRIMS OF SAUCERS
A PAIR OF MEISSEN TWO-HANDLED CHINOISERIE BEAKERS AND SAUCERS CIRCA 1725, DREHER 'S .. TO FOOTRIMS OF BEAKERS AND TO FOOTRIMS OF SAUCERS Painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt , one beaker with an Oriental holding a puce banner with a rampant lion beside a seated smoking figure before a candle, the other side with an Oriental lady and children, the other beaker with two figures conversing one with a bird lure and a kneeling figure before a steaming pot, the other side with figures at discussion, all on terraces with utensils and flowering plants above alternating gilt and turquoise moulded fluted gadroons, the interiors and handles richly gilt, the gilt ground saucers reserved with Orientals swinging a censer and kneeling before an altar worshipping an idol seated before a girandole with gilt chinoiseries, and with a group of Orientals holding a parasol and a musical instrument on a terrace with flowering plants, the undersides with alternating gilt and turquoise radiating moulded fluted gadroons within gilt Laub-und-Bandelwerk borders (one beaker with retouched chips to footrim, one saucer with three small chips to underside of footrim and slight flaking to turquoise enamel) (2)
