A pair of mid Victorian electro-plated three branch candelabra, unmarked, no. 2942, with detachable pineapple finials, campana shape capitals, ram's head and open scroll branches, reeded tapered columns, the triform domed bases each mounted with three models of hippocampi, one presentation engraved, 57.5cm (22 1/2in) high presentation inscription reads 'Presented by the City Lands Committee to James Ebenezer Saunders, Esq. F.Z.S. F.G.S. in testimony of their appreciation of his great ability, untiring energy and .. courtesy as their Chairman, 1866'. these appear unmarked an attribution maybe made to the Birmingham firm of Cartwright & Woodward, or a copier. See Jones, Kenneth Crisp 'The Silversmiths of Birmingham and their marks 1750-1980', p. 133, fig. 124 for a single silver example by bCartwright & Woodward.
