A pair of miniature Napoleonic Prisoner of War bone models
CIRCA 1800
A pair of miniature Napoleonic Prisoner of War bone models circa 1800 each model planked and pinned in bone; the first of a 86 gun second rate ship of the line, with painted wood bands at the waist and between the gunports and detailed with a carved and polychromed figurehead, cannons, capstan, belfry, railings, deck gratings, ladders and other details. Rigged with a bowsprit and three masts, cross spars, standing and running rigging ( some original ), and a pair of boats over the sides; the second of a 90-gun second rate ship of the line, with baleen bands at the waist and between the gunports and detailed with a carved and painted figurehead, cannons, deck eyes, capstan, barrels, belfry, railings, binnacle, stairway, deck house and other details. Rigged with bowsprit and three masts, cross spars, standing and running rigging ( replaced ). Each model is mounted on a marquetry base on a plush pale blue lined glass case. 8 x 11¾ in.(20.3 x 29.9 cm.) and 7¼ x 10¼ in. (18.4 x 26 cm.) on case base. (2)
