A PAIR OF MINTONS PÂTE-SUR-PÂTE TWO-HANDLED TAPERING CYLINDRICAL VASES AND COVERS by Louis Marc Solon , decorated in white slip on peacock-blue grounds with continuous friezes of maidens attended by cherubs among trees, one vase with the cherubs tying the maidens to the tree-trunks with chains, rope, garlands and drapery, the other vase with the maidens tying nets to the tree-trunks to entrap the cherubs, below waisted rims gilt with scale-pattern and above swelling gadroon-moulded lower bodies enriched with gilt scale-pattern and husks, the two ribbed gilt handles with satyr's mask terminals and extended horns moulded with foliage-scrolls, on gadroon-moulded spreading circular feet, the fluted covers with flammiform finials, both signed L Solon , impressed marks, both incised 2708, gilt printed marks, impressed date codes for 1896, dated in gilt 4.6.97 and 10.8.97 20in. (51cm.) high (2)
