A PAIR OF RESTAURATION ORMOLU AND PARIS PORCELAIN-MOUNTED AMARANTH TORCHERES ATTRIBUTED TO ALEXANDRE-LOUIS-BELLANGE, CIRCA 1820, MINOR DIFFERENCES TO THE PORCELAIN DECORATION Each with an octagonal top with central wreathed reserve flanked by foliate scrolls and with molded edge above the square stepped shaft with a capital inset with plaques of musical and love trophies above ram's heads and a foliate cap, on the tapering shaft with foliate trails and above a rosette on four paw feet, the rounded square base with inset angles and foliate clasps on a conforming plinth with foliate reserves and scallop-shells to the angles on foliate inscrolled feet, one marked '4' in pencil and with label inscribed '6960', the underside of one top solid oak and the other veneered in amaranth, very minor variations in height, the slight differences in these torchères possibly indicate that they are from two different pairs, the mounts regilt with traces of mercury gilding, the feet originally probably with further plinth One 44¾ in. (114 cm.), the other 44½ in. (113 cm.) high, 14¾ in. (38 cm.) square (2)
