A PAIR OF SCOTTISH TERRESTRIAL AND CELESTIAL TABLE GLOBES BY JAMES KIRKWOOD AND SONS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY THE CELESTIAL DATED 1802 Both spheres with twelve hand coloured engraved gores to the poles, the terrestrial depicting geographical information (including Australia named as New Holland) with graduated equator and ecliptic, the primiridian through London, showing the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the Arctic and Antarctic circles, showing the tracks of Captain Cook's, Captain Gore's and and other voyages; the celestial, with graduated equator, equinoctial colure and ecliptic the latter graduated with the houses of the Zodiac the constellations depicted by mythological beasts and figures and scientific instruments, showing the tropics, Northern and Southern Poles; both spheres with graduated brass meridian rings and chapter rings. The stand with hand coloured engraved horizon graduated in months of the year, houses of the Zodiac with their sigils and compass points mounted on four baluster turned stained beech legs and conforming turned X stretcher 19in.
