CIRCA 1715-20
A PAIR OF SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK TURN-OFF PISTOLS BY JOHN WILLIAMS CIRCA 1715-20 With strongly moulded cannon barrels decorated with engraved bands and signed below the steel-springs, separate barrel tangs with leaf finials, the actions with engraved linear borders and fitted with stud safety-catches, moulded swelling figured walnut butts, large silver butt-caps cast in low relief and each involving a small demon mask finial, silver dragonesque side-plates, silver acanthus escutcheons engraved with owner's crest (rubbed), and iron trigger-guards cut with leaf finials, London proof marks and barrel forger's mark 'IW' crowned (one top jaw and screw replaced, one steel repaired and now incorrectly seated, one butt with small filled repair). 11in (28cm) (2)
