A PERSIAN SHAMSHIR DATED 1197 AH ( CIRCA 1783 AD) With curved blade, both sides with a decorated calligraphic panel in gold koftgari running over the greater length of the back-edge, and with two further brief inscriptions within gold koftgari cartouches at the forte (the cutting edge chipped, small rust patches), iron hilt retaining some koftgari patterns (rubbed), ivory grip-scales, and in its original leather-covered wooden scabbard with russet-iron mounts decorated throughout with panels of gold koftgari scrollwork. 31½in (80cm) blade
