MARK OF FRIEDRICH KOECHLI, ST PETERSBURG, CIRCA 1890
A Rare and Important Jewelled Gold and Guilloché Enamelled Imperial Presentation Snuff-Box Mark of Friedrich Koechli, St Petersburg, circa 1890 Oval, the hinged cover centred with a watercolour on ivory miniature of Emperor Nicholas II, in the uniform of the Preobrazhenskii Regiment (pattern 1881), within a diamond surround surmounted by a diamond-set Imperial crown, on a translucent green sunburst guilloché enamelled ground within a gold and brilliant trail and stylised foliate border, the sides similarly enamelled on a wavy guilloché ground, each panel inset with a vacant octagonal gold cartouche with beaded border framing a sunburst guilloché panel, the reeded gold pilasters applied with acanthus leaves, the base enamelled in translucent green over a sunburst guilloché ground centred with the Imperial double-headed eagle, the flange with everted gold thumb-piece, marked inside cover and base 3¾ x 2¾ in. (9.5 x 7 cm.)
