A RARE BEIJING ENAMELLED GILT COPPER WINE EWER AND COVER, QIANLONG Katalognummer: CA0917-065 The massive gilt copper body covered with multicolor enamel painting on white ground, the inside covered in turquoise enamel, the lid with a raised knob. The bottom with a Qianlong four-character seal mark in an iron red double lined reserve on white ground China possibly of the period (1735-1796) or later (18th-19th century) Delicately painted with peony flowers, tendrils and leaves as the main motif. The lid and the knob each decorated with a lotus blossom. The rectangular spout and handle with enameled reserves on four and three sides respectively, each section bearing neatly executed floral borders. The apron with another flower and leaves border. Shape: Rectangular Dimensions: Length 16.5 cm. Height 9.5 cm. Condition: Significant green staining to the white background stemming from corrosion of the copper body under the enamel, the original white color as it should be can be seen on the bottom of the vessel, where no staining appears. One area has been cleaned and as a result the staining is less intensive but at the same time the colors of the painting have faded slightly. Several smaller and one larger chip to the enameling of the lid.
